The Softer Side of Paint Prep
We designed our 3M Hookit Painter's Abrasive Disc Back-up Pad for auto body sanding jobs requiring finer abrasive grades such as prep sanding for color, primer and clear coat, where added support and control are important. The 6” diameter soft-density foam body has a 15° taper for flexibility when sanding along contours or close to edges. The disc pad features 5/16-24 external threads which are compatible with orbital or random orbital sanders that have 5/16-24 internal threads. Our Hookit Attachment System
The Hookit hook-and-loop feature makes disc attachment, removal, and re-attachment clean and easy, and facilitates use and re-use of the disc for the extent of the abrasive life. Hookit disc pads have J-shaped hooks of the type most commonly used in everyday hook-and-loop applications. Hookit disc pads grip the brushed nylon loop backings of 3M Hookit discs and provide a finer finish than do adhesive backed discs. The Hookit system is designed for work spaces where adhesive backed discs may become contaminated by dust, dirt, or flying debris.Science for Better Sanding from 3M
For sanding jobs where details are most important, 3M applies science to make life easier and more efficient for collision repair professionals. From its soft foam body designed specifically for paint prep to its quick-change attachment system, our 3M Hookit Painter's Abrasive Disc Back-up Pad is another great example of how 3M helps you get the most from your auto body operations.Trusted 3M Painter's Quality
The 3M Painter's Disc Pad with Hookit, model 05778, delivers reliable performance for paint prep. This backing pad is designed specifically for paint department applications, ensuring consistent results every time.
Its Hookit attachment system makes disc changes quick and easy, helping you get the most out of each abrasive disc. This feature supports efficient work and reduces downtime during projects.
Precise 15 Degree Tapered
The 6 inch diameter pad features a 15° tapered edge that adds control for finer finishing. This taper helps you sand close to edges and contours with greater accuracy and a better feel for the surface.
This design is ideal for prep sanding tasks involving primer, color, and clear coat, where precision is key. The taper enhances flexibility and conformability on curved surfaces.
Compatible Threaded Backing
This disc pad includes 5/16-24 external threads, making it compatible with orbital or random orbital sanders that have matching internal threads. This ensures a secure fit for various sanding tools.
Such compatibility allows you to use the pad across different sanding machines, increasing versatility and convenience in your auto body or paint prep work.
Soft Foam Flexibility
The pad’s soft density foam body provides excellent flexibility and conformability. This softness helps the pad adapt to contours and irregular surfaces, improving sanding quality and reducing the risk of damage.
Its foam construction supports smooth, cost-efficient application of primer, color, and clear coat, making it a practical choice for detailed paint prep jobs.
Convenient Ten Per Case
This product comes in a pack of 10 per case, offering good value and ensuring you have enough pads for multiple projects. The pack size supports efficient inventory management for busy workshops.
Having a set of ten pads on hand means you can maintain a steady workflow without frequent reordering, which is especially useful in professional auto body or paint departments.
