Our 3M Hookit hook-and-loop attachment works well by enabling easy re-use when switching between grades before the discs are worn out. The open coat feature provides a more aggressive cut than a comparable closed coat abrasive of the same grade, and the disc's load-resistant coating reduces clogging of the disc, making this a good choice for woodworking and other applications where loading hinders performance. Designed for use with a random orbital sander, this disc comes in a range of grades for fine sanding and finishing, and is resin-bonded for reliable performance under high heat and pressure.
We chose aluminum oxide abrasive, which is a popular choice among industrial professionals because of its fast cut-rate and long life. This mineral makes a tough, durable abrasive that self-fractures to expose fresh cutting edges, whereas traditional natural abrasives dull more quickly. Due to its fast cut-rate, hardness, and strength, it is widely used in grinding applications in addition to sanding and finishing applications.
Aluminum oxide is suitable for a wide variety of materials in both woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys. Coated abrasive discs cut better and last longer when dust isn't clogging the cutting surface of the abrasives. Open coat construction means the abrasive grains are placed with space between them to help evacuate sanding dust and other debris to avoid clogging the cutting edge of the grains. The load-resistant coating also allows the disc to continue cutting even when sanding softwoods, paints, and other materials that would, otherwise, clog the disc and hinder sanding ability. Additionally, the open coat feature provides a more aggressive cut than a comparable closed coat abrasive of the same grade. All of this adds up to increased productivity and reduced material consumption.
Here at 3M we offer a complete line of hook-and-loop style Hookit discs for work spaces where adhesive backed discs may become contaminated by dust, dirt, or flying debris. They are often used in applications where a 3M Stikit disc may be too aggressive, as Hookit discs tend to leave finer finishes than adhesive backed discs. Hookit sanding discs conveniently and firmly attach to a hook-and-loop backup disc pad (sold separately) on a random orbital sander, can be removed cleanly and easily, and can be re-used again and again for the extent of the abrasive life.
Trusted 3M Hookit Model
The 3M Hookit Gold Film Disc 255L is designed for easy changing and reuse, maximizing the disc's life. This model features the reliable 3M Hookit hook-and-loop attachment system, making it simple to switch between grades before the disc wears out.
Ideal for professionals, this disc offers consistent performance with its hook-and-loop format, ensuring a firm attachment to backup pads. The 255L model is well-suited for high-production environments where efficiency matters.
Durable P80 Grade Abrasive
This disc comes in the P80 grade, providing a fast cut and long-lasting abrasive action. The aluminum oxide abrasive grain is popular for its toughness and ability to self-fracture, exposing fresh cutting edges for continued performance.
Thanks to the P80 grade, the disc works effectively on wood, paint prep, and defect repair applications. It balances aggressive cutting with a consistent finish, making it a versatile choice for many sanding tasks.
Optimal 3 Inch Size
Measuring 3 inches in diameter, this disc fits standard random orbital sanders perfectly. The size allows for precise control and access to tight areas, enhancing sanding accuracy and finish quality.
The 3-inch dimension also supports efficient dust evacuation due to the open coat construction, which spaces abrasive grains to prevent clogging. This size is practical for both detailed work and broader surface preparation.
Reliable Film Backing Format
The disc uses a tear-resistant film backing that provides a close-tolerance, consistent finish. This backing is more flexible and durable than paper, making it suitable for demanding sanding jobs without compromising finish quality.
Film backing also withstands high heat and pressure, ensuring the disc maintains its shape and performance during extended use. This format supports the disc’s long life and professional-grade results.
Convenient 50 Per Carton
Each carton contains 50 discs, offering ample supply for ongoing projects. This pack size supports productivity by reducing the need for frequent reordering and ensuring discs are always on hand.
The 50-disc carton is part of a larger case of 200 discs, making it easy to stock up for larger operations or multiple workstations. This packaging suits both individual professionals and industrial users.
