  • Product Description
    • 3M Hookit discs are easy to change and reuse, maximizing utility for the life of the disc
    • Aluminum oxide abrasive offers a fast cut, long life, and professional performance on many surfaces
    • Load-resistant coating prevents dust and debris from clogging the disc
    • Open coat construction provides a more aggressive cut
    • Tear-resistant film backing provides a close-tolerance, consistent finish
3M Hookit Gold Film Disc 255L features aluminum oxide abrasive grain on a film backing for a fast cut-rate and uniform, close-tolerance finish on wood, paint prep, and defect repair applications. The flexible film backing provides a consistent finish and greater tear-resistance than a comparable paper product, making it well-suited for a high-production environment.

Our 3M Hookit hook-and-loop attachment works well by enabling easy re-use when switching between grades before the discs are worn out. The open coat feature provides a more aggressive cut than a comparable closed coat abrasive of the same grade, and the disc's load-resistant coating reduces clogging of the disc, making this a good choice for woodworking and other applications where loading hinders performance. Designed for use with a random orbital sander, this disc comes in a range of grades for fine sanding and finishing, and is resin-bonded for reliable performance under high heat and pressure.

We chose aluminum oxide abrasive, which is a popular choice among industrial professionals because of its fast cut-rate and long life. This mineral makes a tough, durable abrasive that self-fractures to expose fresh cutting edges, whereas traditional natural abrasives dull more quickly. Due to its fast cut-rate, hardness, and strength, it is widely used in grinding applications in addition to sanding and finishing applications.

Aluminum oxide is suitable for a wide variety of materials in both woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys. Coated abrasive discs cut better and last longer when dust isn't clogging the cutting surface of the abrasives. Open coat construction means the abrasive grains are placed with space between them to help evacuate sanding dust and other debris to avoid clogging the cutting edge of the grains. The load-resistant coating also allows the disc to continue cutting even when sanding softwoods, paints, and other materials that would, otherwise, clog the disc and hinder sanding ability. Additionally, the open coat feature provides a more aggressive cut than a comparable closed coat abrasive of the same grade. All of this adds up to increased productivity and reduced material consumption.

Here at 3M we offer a complete line of hook-and-loop style Hookit discs for work spaces where adhesive backed discs may become contaminated by dust, dirt, or flying debris. They are often used in applications where a 3M Stikit disc may be too aggressive, as Hookit discs tend to leave finer finishes than adhesive backed discs. Hookit sanding discs conveniently and firmly attach to a hook-and-loop backup disc pad (sold separately) on a random orbital sander, can be removed cleanly and easily, and can be re-used again and again for the extent of the abrasive life.

    Trusted 3M Hookit Model

The 3M Hookit Gold Film Disc 255L is designed for professionals who want reliable sanding performance. This model features the trusted 3M brand and the Hookit system, which makes disc changes quick and easy.

    Precise P220 Grade Abrasive

This sanding disc comes in the P220 grade, offering a fine sanding option for detailed finishing work. The P220 grit is ideal for paint preparation and defect repair, providing smooth results without over-sanding.

Using the P220 grade ensures you get a close-tolerance finish on wood and other materials. It’s a great choice when you need controlled abrasion with professional-quality results.

    Durable 3 Inch Size

The disc measures 3 inches in diameter, making it compatible with many random orbital sanders. This size offers a good balance between coverage and precision for various sanding projects.

Its 3-inch dimension fits well in tight spots and allows for easy handling. Whether you’re working on small parts or larger surfaces, this size helps maintain control and efficiency.

    Reliable Film Backing Format

The Gold Film Disc uses a tear-resistant film backing that holds up well under pressure. This backing provides a consistent finish and lasts longer than paper-backed alternatives.

Film backing also supports the aluminum oxide abrasive’s fast cut rate and durability. It’s especially useful in high-production environments where disc longevity matters.

    Convenient 50 Disc Pack

This product comes in a pack of 50 discs per carton, with 200 discs per case available for larger needs. The pack size helps keep your workspace stocked and ready for ongoing sanding tasks.

Having 50 discs per carton means fewer interruptions to reload supplies. It’s a practical choice for professionals who require consistent access to quality sanding discs.
