- Tear-resistant film backing provides a close-tolerance, consistent finish
Our 3M Hookit hook-and-loop attachment works well by enabling easy re-use when switching between grades before the discs are worn out. The open coat feature provides a more aggressive cut than a comparable closed coat abrasive of the same grade, and the disc's load-resistant coating reduces clogging of the disc, making this a good choice for woodworking and other applications where loading hinders performance. Designed for use with a random orbital sander, this disc comes in a range of grades for fine sanding and finishing, and is resin-bonded for reliable performance under high heat and pressure.
We chose aluminum oxide abrasive, which is a popular choice among industrial professionals because of its fast cut-rate and long life. This mineral makes a tough, durable abrasive that self-fractures to expose fresh cutting edges, whereas traditional natural abrasives dull more quickly. Due to its fast cut-rate, hardness, and strength, it is widely used in grinding applications in addition to sanding and finishing applications.
Aluminum oxide is suitable for a wide variety of materials in both woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys. Coated abrasive discs cut better and last longer when dust isn't clogging the cutting surface of the abrasives. Open coat construction means the abrasive grains are placed with space between them to help evacuate sanding dust and other debris to avoid clogging the cutting edge of the grains. The load-resistant coating also allows the disc to continue cutting even when sanding softwoods, paints, and other materials that would, otherwise, clog the disc and hinder sanding ability. Additionally, the open coat feature provides a more aggressive cut than a comparable closed coat abrasive of the same grade. All of this adds up to increased productivity and reduced material consumption.
Here at 3M we offer a complete line of hook-and-loop style Hookit discs for work spaces where adhesive backed discs may become contaminated by dust, dirt, or flying debris. They are often used in applications where a 3M Stikit disc may be too aggressive, as Hookit discs tend to leave finer finishes than adhesive backed discs. Hookit sanding discs conveniently and firmly attach to a hook-and-loop backup disc pad (sold separately) on a random orbital sander, can be removed cleanly and easily, and can be re-used again and again for the extent of the abrasive life.
3M Hookit Gold Model
The 3M Hookit Gold Film Disc 255L is designed for easy changing and reusing, maximizing the disc's life. This model features the trusted 3M Hookit system, which securely attaches to hook-and-loop backup pads for convenience and efficiency.
Its hook-and-loop attachment allows quick switching between grades without wasting discs. This model is ideal for professionals who need reliable performance and easy handling in sanding tasks.
Grade P120 Performance
This disc comes in grade P120, offering a balance of aggressive cutting and smooth finishing. The P120 grade is suitable for a variety of sanding applications, providing a consistent finish on wood and paint prep surfaces.
Using P120 helps achieve professional results in defect repair and surface preparation. It’s a versatile grade that works well with the 3M Hookit Gold Film Disc 255L’s fast-cut aluminum oxide abrasive.
6 Inch Size Versatility
The disc measures 6 inches in diameter with a NH (non-hole) format, fitting many random orbital sanders. This size is popular for both woodworking and metalworking tasks, offering good coverage and control during sanding.
Its 6-inch dimension makes it compatible with standard sanding tools, allowing users to handle a range of projects efficiently. The NH format means it’s designed without holes, suitable for dust collection systems that don’t require them.
Hookit Format System
The Hookit format allows the disc to be attached and removed easily from the backing pad, enabling reuse until the abrasive is worn out. This system reduces downtime and waste compared to adhesive-backed discs.
Hookit discs tend to leave finer finishes and are less aggressive than adhesive-backed options, making them ideal for detailed sanding work. The format supports high productivity in environments where quick disc changes are needed.
Pack Count Four Cartons
This product is sold in a pack of 4 cartons, with each carton containing 100 discs. The total pack count of 400 discs ensures a steady supply for high-volume sanding operations.
Having 4 cartons per case supports bulk purchasing for workshops or industrial settings. This pack size helps maintain workflow without frequent reordering, making it cost-effective and convenient.
