  • Product Description
    • 3M Hookit discs are easy to change and reuse, maximizing utility for the life of the disc
    • Aluminum oxide abrasive offers a fast cut, long life, and professional performance on many surfaces
    • Load-resistant coating prevents dust and debris from clogging the disc
    • Open coat construction provides a more aggressive cut
    • Tear-resistant film backing provides a close-tolerance, consistent finish
3M Hookit Gold Film Disc 255L features aluminum oxide abrasive grain on a film backing for a fast cut-rate and uniform, close-tolerance finish on wood, paint prep, and defect repair applications. The flexible film backing provides a consistent finish and greater tear-resistance than a comparable paper product, making it well-suited for a high-production environment.

Our 3M Hookit hook-and-loop attachment works well by enabling easy re-use when switching between grades before the discs are worn out. The open coat feature provides a more aggressive cut than a comparable closed coat abrasive of the same grade, and the disc's load-resistant coating reduces clogging of the disc, making this a good choice for woodworking and other applications where loading hinders performance. Designed for use with a random orbital sander, this disc comes in a range of grades for fine sanding and finishing, and is resin-bonded for reliable performance under high heat and pressure.

We chose aluminum oxide abrasive, which is a popular choice among industrial professionals because of its fast cut-rate and long life. This mineral makes a tough, durable abrasive that self-fractures to expose fresh cutting edges, whereas traditional natural abrasives dull more quickly. Due to its fast cut-rate, hardness, and strength, it is widely used in grinding applications in addition to sanding and finishing applications.

Aluminum oxide is suitable for a wide variety of materials in both woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys. Coated abrasive discs cut better and last longer when dust isn't clogging the cutting surface of the abrasives. Open coat construction means the abrasive grains are placed with space between them to help evacuate sanding dust and other debris to avoid clogging the cutting edge of the grains. The load-resistant coating also allows the disc to continue cutting even when sanding softwoods, paints, and other materials that would, otherwise, clog the disc and hinder sanding ability. Additionally, the open coat feature provides a more aggressive cut than a comparable closed coat abrasive of the same grade. All of this adds up to increased productivity and reduced material consumption.

Here at 3M we offer a complete line of hook-and-loop style Hookit discs for work spaces where adhesive backed discs may become contaminated by dust, dirt, or flying debris. They are often used in applications where a 3M Stikit disc may be too aggressive, as Hookit discs tend to leave finer finishes than adhesive backed discs. Hookit sanding discs conveniently and firmly attach to a hook-and-loop backup disc pad (sold separately) on a random orbital sander, can be removed cleanly and easily, and can be re-used again and again for the extent of the abrasive life.

    Trusted 3M Hookit Model

The 3M Hookit Gold Film Disc 255L is designed for easy changing and reusing, maximizing the disc's life. This model features the Hookit hook-and-loop system, allowing quick swaps between grades without wasting discs.

Its hook-and-loop attachment works well with random orbital sanders, making it ideal for professionals who need reliable performance. The 255L model is known for providing a consistent finish and tear resistance thanks to its film backing.

    Precise Six Inch Size

This sanding disc measures 6 inches in diameter, making it compatible with many standard random orbital sanders. The size offers a good balance between coverage and control for detailed sanding tasks.

With a 6 in dimension, it fits well on backup pads designed for hook-and-loop discs. This size is versatile for woodworking, paint prep, and defect repair applications, ensuring smooth and uniform finishes.

    Grade P150 Performance

The disc comes in grade NH P150, which is suitable for fine sanding and finishing. This grade provides an aggressive yet controlled cut, ideal for preparing surfaces before painting or refinishing.

Using P150 grade helps achieve a close-tolerance finish on wood and other materials. It balances fast cutting with a smooth surface, making it a preferred choice for professionals needing consistent results.

    Durable Film Backing Format

The Gold Film Disc 255L uses a tear-resistant film backing that offers greater durability than paper alternatives. This backing maintains a consistent finish and withstands high heat and pressure during sanding.

Film backing also supports the disc’s load-resistant coating, which prevents clogging from dust and debris. This ensures the disc keeps cutting effectively, especially on softwoods and painted surfaces.

    Bulk Pack Convenience

This product is sold in a pack of 100 discs per carton, with 4 cartons per case. Buying in bulk ensures you have enough discs for high-production environments without frequent reordering.

The 100/Carton and 4 Cartons/Case packaging suits workshops and industrial users who require a steady supply. It also helps reduce downtime by keeping plenty of discs on hand for continuous sanding work.
