  • Product Description
    • Designed for use with a 3M Disc Pad Hub
    • Plate accommodates a fiber disc of equal diameter
    • Plate color indicates disc density for easy identification in the workroom
    • Various flexibilities support grinding applications ranging from lightweight to heavy-duty
3M Disc Pad Face Plate backs a same size fiber disc (sold separately) to provide firm support and the force required for grinding applications. It is used in conjunction with a disc pad hub (sold separately), which attaches to the power tool, and held into place along with the appropriate disc using a retainer nut (sold separately).

This assembly allows 3M Disc Pad Face Plate to be easily changed without removing the disc pad hub, allowing the operator to use a single tool for multiple applications from heavy grinding to finishing a workpiece.

Some face plates have ribbing on the bottom face. Ribbed face plates provide additional force when needed for optimal fracturing of the abrasive mineral. By reducing the area of contact, or pressure per square foot (PSI), ribbed face plates increase the grinding pressure of the abrasive with the same amount of operator effort, and extend disc life when dulling is a problem.

Choose a plate with the level of firmness needed for the application—a lighter density face plate for lighter weight grinding applications, and a harder density face plate for more heavyweight grinding applications. Using the correct face plate for the application ensures that the abrasive mineral will fracture as it should, maximizing the life of the abrasive. The plate comes in one of four different colors that indicate the density so the correct plate can be easily identified in the workroom: red = extra hard (for heavy grinding with the coarsest grades), black = hard (for heavy metal removal, large welds, etc.), gray = medium (for general purpose grinding and finishing), and white = soft (for finishing operations on flat or contoured surfaces).

    Trusted 3M Disc Pad

The 3M Disc Pad Face Plate Ribbed 81732 is designed by 3M, a brand known for quality abrasives. This model offers extra hard density, perfect for heavy grinding tasks. Using a trusted brand ensures consistent performance and durability in tough applications.

Its ribbed design adds extra force during grinding, helping fracture abrasive minerals efficiently. This feature supports heavy-duty work, making the 3M 81732 a reliable choice for demanding jobs.

    Extra Hard Red Plate

This face plate comes in a red color, which indicates its extra hard density. This hardness level is ideal for heavy grinding with the coarsest abrasive grades, providing firm support and effective material removal.

Choosing the red extra hard plate helps maximize abrasive life by ensuring proper fracturing. It’s especially useful when working on tough surfaces requiring strong grinding pressure.

    Five Inch Diameter Size

The plate measures 5 inches in diameter, matching the size of fiber discs it supports. This size is common for many grinding applications, offering a good balance between control and coverage.

Its size allows it to back fiber discs of equal diameter, ensuring a secure fit and consistent grinding performance. This makes it compatible with standard 5-inch discs used in various tasks.

    Case Of Ten Pack

This product is sold as a case of 10 plates, providing a convenient bulk supply. Having multiple plates on hand helps reduce downtime by allowing quick changes between grinding tasks.

Buying in a pack of ten is cost-effective for professionals who need to maintain productivity. It also supports different applications by enabling easy swapping of plates as needed.

    Disc Pad Hub Compatibility

The face plate is designed for use with a 3M Disc Pad Hub, which attaches to power tools. This compatibility ensures the plate can be securely mounted and changed without removing the hub.

Using the plate with the disc pad hub and retainer nut allows operators to switch plates quickly. This setup supports a range of grinding applications, from heavy grinding to finishing work.
