Product Description
- Designed for use with a 3M Disc Pad Hub
- Plate accommodates a fiber disc of equal diameter
- Plate color indicates disc density for easy identification in the workroom
- Various flexibilities support grinding applications ranging from lightweight to heavy-duty
This assembly allows 3M Disc Pad Face Plate to be easily changed without removing the disc pad hub, allowing the operator to use a single tool for multiple applications from heavy grinding to finishing a workpiece.
Some face plates have ribbing on the bottom face. Ribbed face plates provide additional force when needed for optimal fracturing of the abrasive mineral. By reducing the area of contact, or pressure per square foot (PSI), ribbed face plates increase the grinding pressure of the abrasive with the same amount of operator effort, and extend disc life when dulling is a problem.
Choose a plate with the level of firmness needed for the application—a lighter density face plate for lighter weight grinding applications, and a harder density face plate for more heavyweight grinding applications. Using the correct face plate for the application ensures that the abrasive mineral will fracture as it should, maximizing the life of the abrasive. The plate comes in one of four different colors that indicate the density so the correct plate can be easily identified in the workroom: red = extra hard (for heavy grinding with the coarsest grades), black = hard (for heavy metal removal, large welds, etc.), gray = medium (for general purpose grinding and finishing), and white = soft (for finishing operations on flat or contoured surfaces).
Trusted 3M Disc Pad
The 3M Disc Pad Face Plate Ribbed 81728 is designed specifically for use with a 3M Disc Pad Hub. This ensures compatibility and reliable performance when paired with the right components. The brand’s reputation guarantees quality and durability for grinding tasks.
Using the exact model 81728 means you get a product tailored for professional use. The ribbed design adds extra force where needed, making it ideal for tough grinding jobs that require precision and strength.
Extra Hard Red Grade
This face plate comes in an extra hard red grade, perfect for heavy grinding applications. The red color clearly identifies the plate’s density, helping workers quickly select the right tool for the job without confusion.
The extra hard rating supports the coarsest abrasive grades, making it suitable for demanding tasks like metal removal and weld preparation. This grade ensures the abrasive mineral fractures properly, extending disc life.
Large Nine Inch Size
The face plate measures 9 inches in diameter, matching the size of the fiber discs it supports. This size is common for many grinding applications, providing a broad surface area for efficient material removal.
Its size allows it to back fiber discs of equal diameter, ensuring firm support during use. This makes it versatile for various grinding tasks, from heavy-duty to finishing work.
Ribbed Plate Design
The ribbed bottom face plate design increases grinding pressure by reducing the contact area. This means more force is applied with the same operator effort, improving grinding efficiency and abrasive performance.
Ribbing also helps extend disc life when dulling is an issue. By optimizing pressure distribution, it supports better fracturing of the abrasive mineral, which is key for maintaining cutting power over time.
Case Of Ten Pack
This product is sold as a case of 10 face plates, providing a convenient bulk supply for workshops or job sites. Having multiple plates on hand reduces downtime and ensures consistent availability for ongoing projects.
The pack size supports efficient inventory management and cost savings. It’s ideal for professionals who need reliable, ready-to-use grinding accessories in larger quantities.
