  • Product Description
    • Ceramic/aluminum oxide blend offers excellent cut rate and life for increased performance over traditional abrasives when sanding on whitewood and metal substrates
    • Durable cotton backing withstands aggressive sanding and grinding
    • Grinding aid reduces grinding temperatures for processes involving heat-sensitive alloys such as stainless steel and nickel alloys
    • Resin bond withstands high heat and pressure
    • Tube-shaped band fits inner and outer contours to remove parting lines, imperfections, and burrs
3M Cloth Band 747D is a versatile abrasive that can be used to access inner and outer contours for grinding, sanding, and shaping on all metals, including stainless steel and nickel alloys, as well as wood and fiberglass. It conforms to contours to remove parting lines or seams, imperfections, and burrs.

For a fast continuous cut and long-life durable performance on aggressive applications, a blend of aluminum oxide and our 3M Ceramic Abrasive Grain is resin-bonded to a durable cotton backing. Resin creates a strong bond that withstands high heat and pressure, and a grinding aid on the band reduces grinding temperatures to protect heat-sensitive alloys.

The band fits onto a rubber wheel attachment (such as a cushion polishing wheel or a rubber slotted expander wheel, both sold separately) for use with a die grinder or rotary drill. The bands come in a range of widths and lengths to suit different contours and tasks, and are often used in foundry work.

Our ceramic abrasive grain is a ceramic mineral designed using a proprietary process to enhance toughness and hardness of the grain. Ceramic blend products feature aluminum oxide blended with ceramic grain for a harder, longer-lasting abrasive. Perfect for stock removal, ceramic abrasives are engineered to fracture frequently for a super fast cut and can handle intense heat and stress applications. Ceramic/aluminum oxide blend surpasses aluminum oxide abrasives in cut-rate and durability and makes our 3M Cloth Band 747D an excellent choice for moderate stock removal and surface preparation.

    3M Cloth Band Model

The 3M Cloth Spiral Band 747D is designed for versatile sanding and grinding tasks. This exact model offers a ceramic/aluminum oxide blend that improves cut rate and durability compared to traditional abrasives.

Its unique composition makes it suitable for working on whitewood and metal substrates, providing reliable performance for various applications.

    Durable Cotton Backing Benefits

This 747D band features a durable cotton backing that withstands aggressive sanding and grinding. The backing supports the abrasive grain, ensuring the band lasts longer during tough jobs.

Because of this backing, the band can handle high heat and pressure, making it ideal for demanding tasks on metals and wood.

    Size And Format Details

The band measures 1/2 inch by 1 inch, fitting a variety of rubber wheel attachments. This size allows it to access inner and outer contours effectively for detailed work.

It comes in a case of 100, providing plenty of supply for ongoing projects or industrial use, ensuring you have the right amount on hand.

    Grinding Aid Advantages

The 3M 747D band includes a grinding aid that reduces temperatures during use. This feature protects heat-sensitive alloys like stainless steel and nickel alloys from damage.

Lower grinding temperatures help maintain material integrity, making this band a smart choice for precision work on delicate metals.

    Resin Bond And Shape

A strong resin bond holds the ceramic/aluminum oxide blend firmly in place, resisting high heat and pressure during grinding. This ensures consistent performance and longer life.

The tube-shaped band fits contours to remove parting lines, imperfections, and burrs, making it useful for shaping and surface preparation on metals, wood, and fiberglass.
