  • Product Description
    • Alumina zirconia mineral with grinding aid provides more cutting power than aluminum oxide
    • Available in a range of sizes and grades to fit your specific needs
    • Heavyweight cloth backing provides durability in high-production operations
    • Runs cool for reliable use on heat-sensitive metals like aluminum and stainless steel
    • Tough and versatile alumina zirconia mineral cuts fast and performs well on many substrates
When traditional aluminum oxide belts aren’t cutting it, try 3M Cloth Belt 577F with alumina zirconia abrasive grain. It offers increased cutting efficiency compared to aluminum oxide, and has a heavy, water-resistant polyester backing that stands up to high-pressure applications and edge work.

    Runs Cool on Heat-Sensitive Metals
We recommend 3M Cloth Belt 577F for use on aluminum, mild steel, and stainless steel or other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. To protect heat sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys and cobalt alloys, we incorporated a grinding aid on the belt reduces running temperatures. Additionally, the abrasive is firmly bonded to the backing with resin to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia fractures frequently to continually produce sharp points and deliver a faster cut-rate than aluminum oxide. A synthetic mineral, it was developed for heavy stock removal and high pressure grinding.

    Sized to Suit Your Needs
Abrasive belts come in many different widths and lengths and are used on a variety of different belt sanding tools for many different metalworking applications. At 3M we offer a broad selection of belts to fit most any industrial belt sander. Wider belts are used with wide belt sanders and feed-through style flat finishers to smooth rough-cut edges of metal sheets, or add a grain pattern to stainless steel sheets. Medium-width belts are generally used on a backstand for weld removal or for imparting a finish. Narrow belts can be used on file tools to access right angle corners for finishing.

    3M Cloth Belt Model

The 3M Cloth Belt 577F features alumina zirconia mineral that cuts faster than aluminum oxide. This model is designed for heavy stock removal and high-pressure grinding, making it ideal for tough metalworking tasks.

Its single-flex format allows for versatile use on various belt sanding tools. The belt’s Film-lok technology ensures the abrasive stays firmly bonded to the backing, maintaining durability under heat and pressure.

    Grade And Weight Benefits

This belt comes in a 120 YF-weight grade, providing a balance of cutting power and longevity. The heavyweight cloth backing supports durability in high-production operations, ensuring the belt withstands demanding use.

The alumina zirconia abrasive grain fractures frequently to create sharp points, delivering a faster cut rate. This makes the 577F grade suitable for dimensioning, deburring, and finishing metal parts efficiently.

    Dimensions And Size

The belt measures 2 inches by 48 inches, fitting a wide range of belt sanding tools. This size is common for medium-width belts used on backstands for weld removal or imparting finishes.

3M offers this belt in various sizes and grades, but this specific 2 in x 48 in dimension is ideal for accessing right-angle corners and smoothing rough-cut edges on metal sheets.

    Film-lok And Format

The Film-lok system in this belt ensures the abrasive grain is securely bonded to the cloth backing. This prevents premature wear and maintains consistent cutting performance throughout the belt’s life.

The single-flex format allows the belt to bend easily around edges and contours, making it versatile for different metalworking applications like deburring and surface preparation.

    Pack Count And Usage

This product comes as a case of 50 belts, packaged in 25 packs. This quantity supports high-volume operations and ensures you have enough belts for continuous work without frequent reordering.

Recommended for use on aluminum, mild steel, and stainless steel, the 3M Cloth Belt 577F is well-suited for finishing castings and forgings, blending, and grinding tasks in industrial settings.
