  • Product Description
    • Alumina zirconia mineral with grinding aid provides more cutting power than aluminum oxide
    • Available in a range of sizes and grades to fit your specific needs
    • Heavyweight cloth backing provides durability in high-production operations
    • Runs cool for reliable use on heat-sensitive metals like aluminum and stainless steel
    • Tough and versatile alumina zirconia mineral cuts fast and performs well on many substrates
When traditional aluminum oxide belts aren’t cutting it, try 3M Cloth Belt 577F with alumina zirconia abrasive grain. It offers increased cutting efficiency compared to aluminum oxide, and has a heavy, water-resistant polyester backing that stands up to high-pressure applications and edge work.

    Runs Cool on Heat-Sensitive Metals
We recommend 3M Cloth Belt 577F for use on aluminum, mild steel, and stainless steel or other exotic metal alloys for dimensioning parts, deburring, blending, and finishing castings and forgings. To protect heat sensitive alloys such as stainless steel, nickel alloys and cobalt alloys, we incorporated a grinding aid on the belt reduces running temperatures. Additionally, the abrasive is firmly bonded to the backing with resin to maintain durability under high heat and pressure. Alumina zirconia fractures frequently to continually produce sharp points and deliver a faster cut-rate than aluminum oxide. A synthetic mineral, it was developed for heavy stock removal and high pressure grinding.

    Sized to Suit Your Needs
Abrasive belts come in many different widths and lengths and are used on a variety of different belt sanding tools for many different metalworking applications. At 3M we offer a broad selection of belts to fit most any industrial belt sander. Wider belts are used with wide belt sanders and feed-through style flat finishers to smooth rough-cut edges of metal sheets, or add a grain pattern to stainless steel sheets. Medium-width belts are generally used on a backstand for weld removal or for imparting a finish. Narrow belts can be used on file tools to access right angle corners for finishing.

    Trusted 3M Cloth Belt

The 3M Cloth Belt 577F is designed for demanding metalworking tasks. This model features alumina zirconia mineral that cuts faster than traditional aluminum oxide abrasives, making it a reliable choice for heavy stock removal.

Its single-flex construction and Fabri-lok technology ensure consistent performance. The belt is built to handle high-pressure applications while maintaining durability and cutting power.

    Precise Grade And Weight

This belt comes in a 120 YF-weight grade, offering a balance of aggressive cutting and smooth finishing. The grade is ideal for dimensioning, deburring, and blending metal parts with precision.

Using this specific weight helps maintain control during grinding, especially on heat-sensitive metals like aluminum and stainless steel, reducing the risk of damage.

    Optimal Dimensions Provided

The belt measures 1/2 inch by 12 inches, a size that fits many industrial belt sanders. This dimension allows for access to tight corners and detailed finishing work on various metal substrates.

Its narrow width is perfect for file tools and backstands, enabling precise weld removal and surface preparation in metalworking tasks.

    Durable Heavyweight Backing

The heavyweight cloth backing enhances durability during high-production operations. This backing resists wear and tear, ensuring the belt lasts longer under tough grinding conditions.

Its water-resistant polyester backing supports edge work and heavy pressure, maintaining belt integrity and consistent performance throughout use.

    Bulk Pack Convenience

This product is sold as a case of 200 belts, packaged in 50 packs. This bulk format supports large-scale industrial use, reducing downtime for reordering and restocking.

Having a large quantity on hand ensures continuous workflow for metal finishing, grinding, and surface preparation tasks without interruption.
